The Algarve is much more than a summer resort, because it offers unique holiday qualities in the spring and autumn months. From Almond blossom time in January to the end of March, visitors will find the climate warmer than at home and ideal for many activities.
There is plenty of sunshine in these months, but without the intensity of midsummer, and the air temperatures are ideal for walking, touring etc.. Some rain can be expected, but the result is a greener terrain than in neighbouring Spain. It is also a time when many would say the countryside is at its best with wonderful displays of wild flowers in bloom.
An added bonus is that prices at off-peak times are appreciably lower than during the peak summer period.
For some, winter is also an appealing time to take a holiday for this is when it is truly quiet and relaxing, and when ….

I’ve spent the past few years of my life working out of Faro airport in Portugal. I tend to deal with a lot of tourists who’ve come to explore the Algarve coast to the east and west. But, as people are always asking me about what there is to see in Faro itself, I thought I’d write a quick guide for anyone who’s thinking of coming here. If you book airport shuttles in Faro I may even get to tell you in person!
One of the places you’ve probably heard of is the Old City. It’s not the easiest place in the world to access in a airport shuttles, but Faro is like that sometimes. The reason for this is that the whole area is still surrounded by a Roman wall. Luckily it’s easy to get into on foot, and once you’re inside there’s a spacious open square that used to be a Forum back when the Romans used it. Nowadays there’s a Cathedral that is still over 700 years old, and if you’re feeling a little macabre you can have a look inside the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo which is lined with the bones of over 1,200 monks…

On leaving Faro airport follow the sign to Faro but dont go into Faro -you will then see a blue sign for Portimao on the N125 road -follow this until you see the blue sign A22 /IP1 to Portimao-don`t go fast otherwise you may miss certain U-turns.
Once on the motorway A22 / IP1 you can go faster until you reach the Albufeira turn off at junction 9.This takes you onto the N125 and then the N395-look out for a footbridge over the road -just before this footbridge on the right side is the entrance to Club Albufeira.Stop at the Reception Centre and ask them to show you on their map where your apartment or villa is located. If you go to the round about you have gone too far!

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at this apartment. We were struck with how clean and well maintained the apartment was from the minute we arrived. Everything worked, there was everything we needed and the bed linen and towels were clean and fresh.
On site there are four pools, we made use of them all! Despite being peak season we always got sunbeds and the pools were well maintained with lifeguards at each one. We ate at all 3 restaurants on site and especially enjoyed the “Casa Azul” which served excellent food and the staff were attentive and family friendly.
This is the first time we have taken our children aged 5 and 1 abroad and it proved to be a fantastic experience. The resort is clean, safe, family friendly and it was quiet and relaxing in the evening sitting on the balcony after the children had gone to bed.
We would definitely consider renting this apartment again but would probably rent a car as it really is impossible at present to walk into town but the local bus network is cheap and reliable and taxis only cost around 4 euro to get back from town. We were also advised that in next year or so the work will be completed so that it will be safe to walk.
The “old town” was wonderful with lot’s of restaurants along the sea front and in the main square. The beach was lovely but being peak season it was very busy from 8 in the morning until 8 at night!
On sight the little shop was well stocked but a little expensive, the larger supermarket at the campsite across the road was much cheaper and had more selection.
Finally with regards to the transfer driver “Duncan”, we unfortunatley forgot our pushchair and left it at the airport. I called Duncan and when he was picking up the next day he enquired at the airport and managed to get our pushchair, which he delivered to our door (he asked for no extra charge!) this was wonderful service!
So to conclude we would recommend this apartment to anyone and would like to thank the owners for sharing their apartment with us as we had a holiday that we will remember for a long time. Thank-you!
